RED CITY RADIO / NO TRIGGER

Oklahoma City punk underdogs are bringing their latest and potentially greatest release 'SkyTigers' down under in 2019, accompanied by the ever-dedicated melodic hardcore outfit No Trigger.

If the name doesn't instantly ring a bell, fear not - you probably know who Red City Radio are. The Heartland punk band has flourished and grown in popularity without having any real help from the usual suspects. They've never been embraced by the hip websites, they've never had a big record label or a fancy booking agent. But most importantly, they've never stopped working hard - with several releases and support slots for bands such a New Found Glory, Less Than Jake and Strung Out under their belts. In March this year they released 'SkyTigers' – songwriter and vocalist Garrett Dale says “The message with SkyTigers is a message of acceptance and love. Accepting control over your own universe and taking a stand against hate, fear, and confusion... We hope that these songs make our listeners feel like there is someone who feels the same as them. Because there is.”

Joining RCR on their voyage are long time scene staples No Trigger. After forming in 2000, the first few years saw the band crowned "the best unsigned band in America" by Punknews. After a five year lull in new music (one which had devoted fans very saddened), No Trigger released their finest work yet, in the form of 2017's 'Adult Braces' EP. 4 songs, 4 absolute hits. Recorded with Jay Maas and mixed/mastered with Jason Livermore, EP is as professionally produced as punk records come. The 2019 tour will be the Massachusetts melodic icon's second trip to Australia, a rare chance for fans to see them in action.

Sydney's very own Idle Threat are the lucky locals who will be joining these seminal US acts on their Australian excursion. They've just released their debut album 'Rope Burn' and they're ready to tear it up in front of unwitting audiences, who will undoubtably eat it up. They've been described by Hysteria Mag as "punk meets blistering metal undertones in a cacophony of passion and rage", and citing influences such as A Wilhelm Scream, Comeback Kid and Only Crime, Idle Threat are set to destroy stages nationwide, so make sure you get down early.

JESS LOCKE BAND

Jess Locke along with friends Self Talk, Shiny Coin and Way Shit come together to farewell The Reverence Hotel.

Jess and her band will play her 2017 album 'Universe' in full, in the band room we're it was written, rehearsed and recorded.

The following is thoughts from Jess on the closing of The Rev:

"I honestly don’t know where I’d be without Reverence Hotel. When I first moved to Melbourne and had a hard time ‘cracking’ the music scene, The Rev welcomed me in with open arms. For a long time I felt like a bit of an outsider. I wasn’t a punk. I played acoustic indie-folk music and hadn’t heard of any of the bands that were supposed to be Melbourne royalty. Still, none of that seemed to matter and so much of my life continued to unfold around The Rev. I met my band and my partner there and we played our first shows together there. We recorded an album in the back room and must owe Matt and Mel the cost of the entire pub in band rehearsals. Last year I even got a job at The Rev and for the first time in about a decade, I could pay my rent without relying on Centrelink.

So looking back, I now realise that I am actually an insider in a house full of outsiders. The people surrounding this place are some of the best people I have ever known and I can’t express in words how lucky I am to have been a part of this while it lasted. I also know that, while The Rev will close its doors, my relationship with these people will continue. The real tragedy is for the community of Footscray who will no longer be able to head down to the Rev for Taco Tuesdays or trivia Wednesdays and all the young bands who won’t get to play their first gig there. So, if you always thought ‘Footscray is just too far’, well now is your last chance, go an grab a beer while they’re still cold!"

FOXING (USA)

Missouri indie rock band Foxing have announced their first Australian tour. Following the news that they will be performing at Farmer & The Owl Festival, eager Australian fans will be able to catch the very first shows at The Rev in Melbourne, Factory Floor in Sydney and Crowbar in Brisbane.
Foxing recently released their highly-anticipated third album, Nearer My God, on August 10th via Triple Crown/Cooking Vinyl Australia. Created over the course of nearly 3 years, Nearer My God was produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists) and Foxing guitarist and songwriter Eric Hudson, with help from Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Modern Baseball).

Once firmly planted in emo's twinkling moods, Foxing now stretches out to soaring heights. All thundering bass and sirens of guitar strings, "Nearer My God" is something akin to David Bowie "Heroes" (an acknowledged influence on this record).

Doors: 8pm
Price: $45.80
